Lamp Shop

The 2013 work 'Lamp Shop plan' was actually a dream turned into reality. He had a strong desire to create the lighting shop due to his ongoing interest in light, after he once considered to make and sell lighting fixtures to earn money for the production costs of his art works. Once a friend whom he met in Tokyo in 2006, and named this idea ‘Lamp Shop’, which Choe found would be very interesting. In 2013, his dream was finally realized. The small shop makes an abrupt appearance within the urban space, with a sign that reads 'Lamp Shop'. Yet the lamps that we see are not what we imagined, its space is filled with the mysterious moving mechanical organisms and emitting a soft glow. In this Lamp Shop, Choe presented the work ‘Insecta Lamp’(2013) their backs adorned with five wings that move slowly shining like a mythological creature; 'Cakra Lamp' (2013), which is a new form of the moving mandala; 'Gorgonian Lamp' (2013) which was inspired by the fan coral found during scuba diving, and 'Temple Lamp', with wings as delicate as a cicada's, reflecting the light of the crystal ball is as mysterious as a dream.
