¡@¡@Caught in the transitional point of the old and new, Wu Hao's history of painting is parallel to the progress of Taiwan's history. In the fifties, he tried very hard to find his own character and the zeitgeist in spite of scare sources. In the sixties, with many members of Oriental Art Society, he started confidently to demonstrate his works in domestic and foreign exhibits, in search of the modern within the traditional fields. Until the seventies, he chose the prints to reflect on the simple and folk motifs. In the eighties, he used oil on canvas to show his colorful and vigorous spirit. In his artistic life, though the contents and images of his works may change through time, he always sticks to his ideal and searches for the purity of art: loyal to emotions, to himself. He combines the soft and the hard to pursue joys and colors. He can find splendor and hope even during the desolate years and among shabby objects. These are his potentials. Just like a wanderer away from his home, he can always find a happy land among thistles and thorns. Optimistically embracing new possibilities and advancing new routes, he cultivates beautiful flowers in the soil of sorrows and sweats.

¡@¡@"You'll be happy only if you find yourself." Wu is direct and vigorous on his canvas. He remade his own brushes and invented his own thin lines of iron threads. On his instinct he placed layers of paint and built up vivid colors in strong contrast on canvas, which evince a happy atmosphere. He also develops a semi-transparent glassy color as his foundation, compressing his main motif flatly to one dimension. Yet by doing so, it creates magic multi-dimensional visual effects. No matter how the time changes, Wu's works demonstrate something unique in his style, composition, expressive forms and characteristics. His works have attached a certain mystic aura: comforts in contradictions, something subtle in broad brushes, elegance in child-like touches, all contributing to his complexities in simplicity. A gallant man of sincere nature, his tenderness and softness, subtlety and tolerance are all delineated on his canvas. It is fair to say that his painting and his personality are like the butterflies happily flying in a radiant spring of full bloom.

¡@¡@Leave what you cannot say to the colors. In Wu's paintings, luxurious and realist landscapes actually hint at surrealist touches. They seem close to us, yet not real. They are concrete existences, after all. Every painting is like a beautiful memory and sighs in our life.
